Lead Qualification
Lead qualification is the process of deciding whether a lead is worth sending to sales, booking, or a CRM based on fit, intent, budget, location, and urgency.
Qualification is a gate, not a ranking: it answers the binary question of whether someone should become a lead at all. A renter can't buy a roof replacement; a visitor outside your service area can't be served — qualification filters them out before anyone spends follow-up time or money.
It can happen manually (a salesperson works through the criteria on a discovery call) or automatically (the capture funnel asks the qualifying questions and runs logic on the answers in real time). Automatic qualification is strictly cheaper: the same questions get asked either way, but automation asks them before the lead enters your systems rather than after.
In practice
A roofing funnel asks "Do you own this property?" on its first slide. Renters branch to a polite exit — no CRM entry, no conversion event — while homeowners continue to scoring and booking. Typical result for local services: 20–40% of paid clicks filtered before they cost follow-up time.
